This is an island that squats in the sea, hiding out of sight of most of its neighbours. Roughly the size of Greenland in our world, this island should be hard to miss, however, it has a sinister reputation, and the corpses of various ships sit just offshore of the primevil land. The island itself is filled with a thick mist that even roils out over in to the four mile clearing cut out of the forest housing a small trade village on the south coast. The trees here are dark and old, gnarled branches that reach up to strangle the light from the sky, while thick thorny vines and creepers fill the spaces between, save for a few wild game trails that meander in amongst the slumbering giants themselves. The first thing one notices upon entering this primeval font of nature, is that they are not alone. Everywhere they seem to go they feel as though they are being watched, sometimes even menacingly, though there is never anything about. As one follows the paths around the winding bends, they may discover upon retracing their steps that the path they came in on, simply no longer exists. The trees move, their leaves whisper things to each other through the wind, and they exact vengeance upon those who seek to harm them. Deep, deep within these woods is a single clearing, where sunlight, or moonlight manages to pierce the mists, to alight upon a small field of wildflowers, their intoxicating scent inducing relaxation, and lethargy, until slumber overcomes their unwitting victims. Within this field of flowers is a great oak, its trunk entwined by a silvery vine with bluish leaves. A crevice in the trunk allows one entrance to the home of the Emardines, where all of the furniture is alive and well, from moss and fern beds, to massive mushroom tables and chairs.
A few other spots in the forest worth noting are
The hotspring, the warm water here is constantly refreshed through an underground source, and serves the forest as both protection from the worst of the winter climate, as well as a source of water.
The circle of roses, a small gathering of white rose bushes hidden deep within the woods, accessible only by those that the forest deems worthy. The roses carry with them a curse upon the plucking for those that have picked a flower from these bushes have violated the spirits of nature that reside within this misty wood.
The gilded tree, with a trunk the color os silver, and leaves the hue of gold, sprouts from the earth within this forest. A sentient tree, this vegetable being will beat to death those greedy fools that attempt to harvest its seeming riches. those that succeed, find that their leaves and bark, become just that once beyond the boundaries of the magical woods.
Stormhaven
The Storm Haven is a large ship wrecked sailing vessel, perched up on some of the rocks that jut out of the water a short distance offshore of Myst Island providing the center of trade and travel as well as the safe route to the small town of Stormhaven. During low tide, the Ship hangs well out of the water, and at high tide, the waves thrash against its lower hull and rock it ever so gently during storms. The great hand built dock that follows those same randomly jutting rocks back to the land, also stretches a short distance further out to sea. Though it isn't straight, and seems to have been constructed from whatever materials and timber came to hand, it is sturdy, and there are plenty of spaces for someone to moor a boat while visiting the island. The ship itself has been renovated, with a full half of its cavernous cargo hold being used now as a tavern and kitchen, with several mismatched tables and chairs taking up the main floor of said taproom. The barcounter is rough hewn, and Paulson spends much of his time sanding it, and other assorted bits of still rough wood that make up the place down. The rooms here were built by a seaman, so they are tight quarters, with a simple cot for a bed, and an animal hide rug on the floor. All in all, there are a total of thirty of these tightly spaced rooms, taking up the other half of the cargo hold, and what used to be the crew's quarters. The captain's cabin, though shorn of much o its pricier contents, is now Paulson's own room, for those brief moments when he's allowed some rest. He does not tolerate visitor's banging on his door to wake him, and an old cutlass stands ready by the doorframe as a means of deterring unwanted guests. Inside the tavern however, Paulson keeps a stout oaken club behind the bar and his woodsplitting axe hanging visible on the wall behind that same counter.-
